Altai Tavan Bogd trekking and climbing

ITINERARY

Day 1: Ulgii town. Transfer to airport and take a flight (3.hours) to Ulgii town, the center of Bayan-Ulgii province. Our guide and drivers will pick up you at local airport and move to the town. (If time allows we will be visiting local ethnographic museum). Travel to a local Ger camp. Stay overnight in Ger camp. BLD
Day 2: Altai Tavan Bogd National Park, Ikh Turgen mountain. This morning we will continue our trip to Altai Tavan Bogd National Park, the pristine wilderness of western Mongolia. On our way we will enjoy ancient dear stones and burial sites. On the way we will be registered at military base. Stay overnight in tent. BLD
Day 3: Zagast valley. This day we start  trekking for 20kms to our next camping spot at Zagast valley be the Hoton lake. On the way we will enjoy extraordinary view amd stunning reflections of neighboring snowcapped peaks drift on lake surface. Visit to a Kazakh family and learn more about their unique lifestyle. On the way we will be registered at another military base. Stay overnight in tent. BLD
Day 4: Hoton nuur, Aral tolgoi. Upon arrival the area we will pitch our camp nearby will head to Lake Hoton and reach the area as named Aral Tolgoi where military base locates. In the evening we will meet our local assistants who will take care for transporting all our luggage, camping equipments and food provisions by pack animals (horses/camels) that rented from nomads. There will be no vehicle support during 12 days trek and climb. Stay overnight in tent. BLD
Day 5: Tsagaan usnii gol valley. In the morning after having hearty breakfast we pack all luggage and load on the back of camels. Start trek to the Tsagaan usnii gol valley. Enjoy an extraordinary view of the mountains. Distance of this day trek is approximately 20km and will take about 6-7 hours for moderate walking. Stay overnight in tent. BLD
Day 6: Green Lake. Hike  up by Tsagaan Usnii Gol. Continue our trekking for 18 kms to next camping.  Going up by beautiful valley.  we will reach the Green Lake. Here are dramatic landscapes of small lake and patches of larch forests. Stay overnight in tent on lake shore. BLD
Day 7: Bear valley. Continue trekking for 18kms along the Tsagaan Usnii gol through stunning valley to Bear Valley.  While enjoying scenic area you will have an opportunity to learn how to make traditional Mongolian dish. Stay overnight in tent near the river. BLD
Day 8: Rest day. This day we will stay in relaxing at same campsite. While enjoying scenic area you will have an opportunity to learn how to make traditional Mongolian dish. Stay overnight in tent near the river. BLD
Day 9: Khar salaa valley. Trekking to mountain pass Takhilt about 10 kms. Crossing over the pass will require quite much effort when it has covers of snow. You will hike up to the mountain pass as following narrow track. After crossing the pass we continue the trek about 8-9 kms along to the Khar salaa valley surrounded by majestic mountains. Stay overnight in tent. BLD
Day 10: Tsagaan gol valley. Continue trekking for 18kms along the Tsagaan gol River through stunning valley to Shiveet Khairkhan Mountain. The Shiveet Mountain is sacred to the Tuvan people and boasts many ibex. Each year the Tuvans climb to the mountain summit to make offering ceremony for the local ghosts. You have an opportunity to visit Ger of Mongol Tuvan family.  Overnight stay in tent nearby the family. BLD
Day 11: To Potaniin’s Glacier base camp. Start trek to the Holy Mounts Altai Tavan Bogd. We will reach to base camp on the edge of the Potaniin’s Glacier, at the foot of Malchin Peak. Enjoy an extraordinary view of the mountains and glacier. Distance of this day trek is approximately 16 km and will take about 5-6 hours for moderate walking. Stay overnight in tent. BLD
Day 12: Malchin peak. Optional acclimatization ascent of the Malchin peak. Today we will have an optional acclimatization climb up at Malchin peak, that stretches for 4051m above sea level, as the lowest of the peaks around. This mountain lies along the borderline of Mongolia and Russia and offers a spectacular view over the Potanin’s glacier and snow peaked summits of Altai Mountain range. Back to the base camp for preparation of next days foray to highest peak of Mongolia. Stay overnight in tent. BLD
Days 13-16: Climb the highest peak of Mongolia. Three days dedicated for our climb to Khuiten peak at 4374m, the highest point of Mongolia. First day we will reach to Khonog Tolgoi, an icy hill lies at eastern side of Khuiten where climbers take a stopover before starting a foray to the summit. Then next day early in the morning start climbing under the guidance of local specialist mountaineering guide. We should cross the Potanin’s glacier that requires main mountaineering equipments in order to reach the target mountain. Before reaching the Khuiten’s foothill we will traverse number of crevasses. Our actual ascent takes 4 hours with technically moderate movement. From the Khuiten summit you would enjoy tremendous bird eye view over China, Russia and the neighboring snowcapped ridges and snow fields. If weather allows for successful climb, then we will return back to our base camp on the edge of Potanin’s glacier. A day is reserved as a spare (leeway) for our climb. Stay overnights in tent. BLD)
Day 17: Last day trekking. On our last day trekking we will trek along the Tsagaan river for 14-16kms about 4-5hours. In the evening our drivers and vans will come at our campsite. Stay overnight in tent. BLD
Day 18: Travel back to Ulgii town. Travel back to Ulgii town as driving about 200kms for 7-8hours. Stay overnight in Ger camp. BLD
Day 19:  Flight back to Ulaanbaatar. Transfer to local airport for taking a flight back to Ulaanbaatar. Arrival in Ulaanbaatar and transfer to your hotel. Free time for relaxing. Stay overnight in the hotel. B
